Swim for Alligator Lighthouse

Hundreds of solo and relay-team swimmers race to conquer the annual Swim for Alligator Lighthouse, a unique open-ocean endurance swimming challenge in Atlantic waters off Islamorada in September. Individuals and two-, three- and four-person teams have up to seven hours to complete the 8-mile roundtrip course. Participants must show proof of completing a prior 1,650-meter or 1-mile swim in 35 minutes or less to compete as an individual.

Flamingle

You can mingle with flamingos in Key West. Nature lovers can find out during a once-a-day "Flamingle" experience at the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory ! "Flamingle" is an hour-long encounter, where human participants sit in a white gazebo overlooking the pond and lushly planted conservatory. The 6-year-old male and female breeding pair, Rhett and Scarlett, walk free and interact as they choose.

The Village of Islands
Things to do

The Village of Islands

Our Village of Islands is situated between the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park in one direction and North America's only coral barrier reef and the deep blue waters of the Florida Straits in the other. Islamorada is comprised of six islands including Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, Lower Matecumbe Key and the offshore islands of Indian Key and Lignumvitae Key. This might be the only place on Earth where it is possible to catch a sailfish in the morning, and then venture into the backcountry in pursuit of bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and redfish in just inches of water.
